About a month ago, I was able to go see a lady from Rwanda get baptized into the LDS church. She had been in Rwanda during the genocide and her family had all been murdered in that massacre. She escaped death by being an aide in the hotel where Paul Rusesabagina had been temporary manager and housed over a thousand Tutsi's. I'm not exactly sure when she came to the states, but she had taken care of my friend's grandfather for awhile and that's how I was able to learn about her and eventually meet her.
It amazes me how people are able to move on after facing tragedy. And losing your family is what I see as one of the most tragic things that could ever happen. It says a lot about her ability to forgive. To see her so happy on her baptism day just reaffirmed to me that we can get through anything and be happy again. There is a God who knows and loves us and will help us in this regard.
And also, I learned that any "problems" I may have, aren't so bad after all :)
If you don't know much about the Rwandan genocide, I recommend the film "Hotel Rwanda" or the book "Left to Tell" by Immaculee Ilibagiza.
I love the book Left to Tell soo sooo much! A must read!!!
